After entering the Dalton, Georgia market by acquiring Bulk Carriers in May of 2023, Eagle Transport Corporation announces the addition of a rail spur to further expand its presence in the bulk sector of the transportation industry.
The first railcar arrived at the Eagle Transport rail spur on July 10, with Dalton driver Caleb Carroll pulling the first load from the rail spur on July 17. By August 15, seven of the nine spots along the new rail spur were filled.
“We are trying to dedicate the spur to powder loads primarily,” Dalton Terminal Manager David Richardson said. “Rail space is very limited in Dalton, and expensive; we can grow our business by offering rail space.”
The recent addition of the rail spur has allowed Eagle to expand their impact on existing and new customers transporting powder products into the Dalton market.
“Joining forces with Bulk Carriers in 2023 has accelerated our dry bulk business, which began in 2017,” President and Chief Operations Officer Lance Collette said. “With the focus of our Dalton team, led by Kevin Brown and David Richardson, we are optimistic our growth will continue across our entire footprint.”
Looking ahead, Eagle aims to have the rail spur operating at maximum capacity and efficiency, switching out up to 18 rail cars each week, which would result in 72 loads being transported out of the rail spur on a weekly basis.
As operations continue to adjust and expand in accommodating the additional rail spur business, Eagle hopes to add more rail spurs to its Dalton location in the future.
The addition of the rail spur marks a strategic milestone in Eagle Transport’s growth in the bulk market, reinforcing its commitment to delivering efficient, scalable solutions for powder product transportation in Dalton and beyond.
